what was the biggest white tail deer you ever shot?
please i am interested please tell me how big and the story.
I took a doe in Michigan that dressed out at 150 pounds. I don’t know what she weighed before that as I field dressed her before moving her. She was so big, and I was so new to deer hunting (my first deer), that I thought she was a buck at first. She was bedded in the snow in a gully made by a nearby stream. The stream was frozen and so was I. I had hunted all day with the temperature in the teens. I was walking to the nearest road out of the woods to get my bearing when I came to the gully. I thought, “Great!” as I was already tired and now had to go down a hill and up a hill just to get to the road. I was carrying a 45lb. Bear recurve bow. The snow was two feet deep and had fallen continuously the previous day. I later noticed that there were no tracks to where the doe lay. She had been sitting out the storm, I guess. When I saw her I froze. She was looking in my direction, but not at me. I was wearing all white. I drew, fired, and stood shocked as my arrow went through her chest. She hardly moved. An older hunter told me that I’d likely come upon a deer that had been hit by a car on the nearby road. Maybe. There weren’t any broken bones when she was processed, but that would have made sense. It nearly killed me to drag her up to the roadside. I ran the roadway back to where everyone was supposed to meet. I was the only one who took a deer that day. The hunters were all over 40 and kept calling me “the kid”. “The kid got one!” I was so proud. Most of my hunting after that was in North Carolina. I was surprised at how much smaller the deer were there. I felt like I was aiming at someone’s German Shepherd the first time out in NC.
