Does cushioning material affect the protection of a raw egg when it is dropped?

I researched this problem a billion times and I still didn’t find what I was looking for ( examples of introduction , procedure, and all the other steps to a science project).If you guys know the examples or you know websites that will give me this information, please type it and help me out! Thank you so much for the people who took the time and answered this question ( If i can figure out who had the best answer, then I will rate you as the best answer!)

Well, anyway, yes, the whole idea of cushioning anything against anything is that it increases the time of negative-acceleration (what people wrongly call “deceleration”). The smaller the acceleration, the less force exerted on the object (Force = Mass * Acceleration). This is why football players wear helmets and pads, cars have build-in crumple zones, it’s how airbags work, and how seatbelts work (note that they don’t usually just immediately snap taught), and why wrapping an egg in foam and bubble wrap increase its chances of surviving a drop. Incidentally, you don’t have to actually “cushion” your egg with a whole bunch of smooshy stuff. If you build a cube, with only the edges (so no solid face), and then attached surgical tubing to the eight corners and onto a little cradle holding your egg tight, than if you did your calculations and tests right, the tubing will extend, slow the acceleration, then spring back and your egg will survive to become an omelet the next day.

If you want to add something to your report you can calculate the egg’s final velocity when it hits the ground. Measure the vertical distance, drop an experimental egg and measure the time it takes from release to impact, then enter:

D = 0.5 * (Vf + Vi) * t

D = distance in meters (m)
t = time in seconds (s)
Vi = initial velocity (which will be zero in this case)
Vf = your impressive final velocity for your report measured in meters per second (m/s)

You can ten determine the acceleration with

a = (Vf -Vi) / t

a = acceleration in meters per second squared (m/s^2)

So, the longer you can extend the negative-acceleration, the smaller the force on your egg. You can prove this with the equation

F = MA

Where

F = force in Newtons (N)
M = mass in kilograms (kg)
A = acceleration in meters per second squared (m/s^2)
