Where can I find a fly fishing starter kit, books, etc.?
My dad wants fly fishing stuff for christmas but I know nothing about it. He has never done it before and wants to learn. Price isnt really a concern (up to $200 at least). Where can I go to find some info on what to get for someone that wants to start doing this? (Direct links to supplies I can order offline will be much appreciated).
You didn’t say what state you live in but there is a series of books written by local authors called “Where to Flyfish In ______” (states like CO, WY, UT, WY, FL, etc.) These will give your dad exact directions, flies to use, and type of rod (weight) to bring on his excursions. Flyfishing is often about the “getting away from it all” and a book on where to go is a great start. P.s. Bass Pro and Cabelas have crappy equipment for fly fishing. Better to use a local fly shop and get info from an owner that knows the sport not someone who is “filling in” from the camping dept.
