what are the red and white pieces around a F1 track corner made from? and what is their main purpose?
do the red and white markings on the race track supply extra grip to the car or reduce it?
This is for two reasons, to help the driver judge their speed as they slow down and to see the edge of the track.
The red and white lines are clearer at slower speeds so the driver can judge their speed while looking out of the cockpit as well as glancing at the speedometer. Also the red and white lines are just so they can see the edge of the track as at the speeds they do upto 200mph colours merge into each other and can be hard to see. A red / white edge is better than a solid red line as it is seen easier.
The red/white bits are simply painted on concrete blocks that slope very gently down to the road so should the cars mount this curb, there is very little chance of danger to the car or driver.
