Rarity Feathers
Rarity Feathers

I have in my garden what looks like an american robin. Is this a rarity and how can i keep it coming back?
It has all the same markings as a british robin, but larger in size with a white undertail and greyish feathers
If you are in America no it is not a rarity!
Assuming that you are in the UK yes it would be very unusual but not unknown. American Robins don’t really look very much like British Robins. They are a kind of thrush, and the breast is more of a brick-red than a scarlet colour.
I suggest that you use the RSPB bird identifier http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdidentifier/ and see if it is one of the less common European birds.
Generally most birds will be attracted by food of some kind especially if there is some cover nearby where they can hide. Most thrush-like birds are ground feeders and will go for seeds and insects, worms etc. Bird seed is easy to obtain and should help.
