what is CAST WEIGHT of a fishing rod?
Can anyone explain what is CAST WEIGHT of a fishing rod? i’m gonna buy a fishing rod with these specs :- CAPERLAN brand, full fibreglass rod, ceramic guides, polyamide reel seat and metal rings. Ferrule part connectors. EVA handle and 30-50g cast weight, —— so i wanna know is this a good product for sea fishing and for big fish, what is the maximum weight can handle by this rod, the store guy says i can catch up to 50 Lbs (pounds) max, is it true? please help me…

Cast weight is the weight the rod was designed to cast best with. 30-50 grams is 1 to 1-2/3 ounces. However, in general you can go a little outside this range — it would probably work okay with 2 or 3 ounces (60-80 grams) with no real problems, or if you’re bottom fishing you can use heavier weights. You’ll have trouble casting lighter weights, but it will be fine for letting small baits drift off a stopped boat.
A 7-foot (2 meter) rod is not that long, so you will most likely be using it off a boat or pier (rather than casting from shore), so long casts are probably not all that important.
I looked around the Caperlan website and wasn’t able to figure out which rod you’re referring to. But in general, I tend to categorize rods by the strength of line they’re designed for. In the US, it’s pound test (like 20 to 30); I’m not sure whether in England they use pounds, kilograms, or the line diameter. But in general, you can expect to be able to land a fish weighing roughly 1.5 to 2 times the breaking strength of the line without too much trouble. (Bigger catches are possible, but more often than not, it’s a losing proposition. Then, of course, some types of fish pull a lot harder for their weight than others.) So if the rod is designed for use with 30 pound test line (and you get a matching reel) you should be able to land 50 pounders, though 10-30 pounders are probably more what the rig is designed for.
