Sage Performance

Any sage advice for my 13 year old daughter is performing on stage tonight? It is a musical.?

Hi. My very shy 13 year old daughter is going to be performing on stage for the next three nights in a local theater production of Pirates of Penzance Jr. We signed her up for this youth summer theater workshop to help her overcome her shyness and it has done wonders! Needless to say, we will continue having her act in future performance but being her first one, can anyone offer some humble advice. She is playing a daughter and she has one small line which reads “I wonder where we are?” The rest of her time on stage is spent singing with the group. Their finale consist of a group dance they have choreographed to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. We are so excited for her! Thank you in advance for any and all helpful advice. Oh I did Pirates of Penzance Junior! Gilbert and Sullivan are amazing! It’s a very fun comedic opera sort of show. It was a blast! I was a daughter too.. =]
Tell her to just be herself, acting is just playing which should be fun! Tell her to forget about the people around her and focus on being a daughter. Tell her to take deep breaths and smile when appropriate. If something happens like maybe a shoe falls off or she loses a glove, just tell her to act like nothing happened because then people will believe it’s just part of the show. Tell her to read her lines slowly and clearly, ENUNCIATE diction. Tell her to bring a positive energy and be enthusiastic because people are coming to get away from their life’s troubles and just relax and enjoy the show and they can only do that if the portrayal of characters is fitting and believable and everyone looks like they’re having fun. Tell her to keep telling herself, “I look like a beautiful daughter tonight and I will do fabulous, no matter what obstacles may lay ahead. “
