HELP Please, does Architecture or civil engineering courses suits me?

My interest in ancient buildings developed some 3 to 4 years ago when i visited europe. I am grateful to be given a chance to see and learn their design, Architecture and my most favorite their history. i really respect those kinds of things, how the acient ppl build it? why they build it? and what they use?
I have been troubled by the thought of which major i want to study in uni and i am trying to find a blend of history, design and math together. i am currently a 12 th grade and my plan is to study civil engineering then expand into architecture majors and my current aim is to study in uc Berkeley
do you guys think this is path suits me ? Or perhaps another course suits me ? any advice is very much appreciated!

thanks

If it is available, why not try Architecture Engineering as your major? My daughter is studying Interior Design and took this as her double major. She found that many courses she was interested in learning about came under the heading of Engineering(blueprints, auto cad, code work, etc.) As a Freshman in college, you will still have to take a History/Humanities course so you can continue to learn in which direction you’d like to go in. This area of study concentrates on excellent math & english skills, so bone up on these areas if you need to. Civil Engineering is an excellent major to go into, as towns/cities need them for everything. I would suggest taking some Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Public Speaking, Accounting/Budgeting courses as well. Engineers deal with people(of all sorts)all the time from the general lay person(you & I now), to contractors, to public departments. If you can, I’d also suggest Psychology, Sociology, Mediation/Negotiations as courses to take as well. Knowing how & why certain cultures behave will help you. Knowing how to calm people down, or bargain for what you need = priceless. I’d suggest you contact your own town/city Engineer and see if you could arrange a meeting to see what his/her job is like and explain that this is a field you are interested in entering. Find out also if the Engineering department has a work study program for students in the field, so that you could later qualify to get some real life hands on training. Be sure to check out all colleges/universities that offer Engineering, as there are many out there and perhaps a lesser known one would offer you a scholarship, cost less, have a great work study program where you can earn $$ to learn necessary job skills in the field you want to enter. Don’t get your heart set on just one college, because if you are not accepted there what are your backup colleges? You have a lot of work before you & watch the college application deadlines[many begin Jan-March]. Good Luck to you. GuardDog
